Anne of Green Gables

By L.M. Montgomery

Adapted and Directed by

Deborah Shakespeare Thurber

A beloved 1908 novel about 11 year old orphan Anne Shirley who arrives at the farm of Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert in Prince Edward Island.  Marilla and Matthew wanted to adopt a boy but instead they get a feisty redheaded girl who wins them over with her spirited nature as she grows up in their home at Green Gables.  Anne finds “kindred spirits” while she navigates school and rivalries in the village of Avonlea. This text is a favorite coming-of-age story as it exemplifies the themes of family, love and what it means to find one’s home and purpose.
